The Kefir Diet

Lethargy, excess weight, and feeling terrible are much more often linked to an unhealthy diet
— lots of fried and fatty foods, an abundance of rich pastries and alcohol, and high-calorie meals loaded with chemicals and various harmful additives.
All of this together puts an excessive strain on the body; soon it can’t handle it and breaks down.

For the body to function optimally, you need a proper nutrition plan, a regular schedule, and moderate physical activity is absolutely essential.

Doctors recommend having a fasting day at least once a week and consuming a single light food item during that time. For example, nutritionists have highlighted the fermented milk product kefir, which helps the body recover and cleanse itself after a strenuous week.
The results of this diet won’t keep you waiting long. In addition to being used for weight loss, a kefir-based diet normalizes the general condition of the gastrointestinal tract, helps completely cleanse the body of toxins and substances harmful to the body, and restores metabolism.

The beneficial and unique properties of this fermented milk product are rightly considered to include the elimination of side effects from antibiotics and medications, a reduced risk of malignant tumors, the prevention of urinary tract diseases, and the prevention of atherosclerosis.

In addition, regular consumption of kefir can improve blood circulation and lower blood pressure.

There are several different dietary options that incorporate plain kefir. The main ones are:
The 1-Day Kefir Diet
This involves consuming the fermented milk drink for one day. During this time, you should drink up to 1.5 liters of low-fat kefir per day, dividing the total amount into 6 servings. It is also recommended to drink up to 2 liters of plain mineral water.

3-Day Kefir Diet
The second option involves consuming kefir over the course of 3 days. This is one of the best types of fasting days for the entire body. It is recommended to drink up to 1.5 liters of kefir, divided into 5 servings.

While following this diet, excess salt is eliminated from the body. Experts recommend avoiding overly strenuous physical activity at the gym while on this diet.

This type of diet is one of the strictest. Therefore, anyone involved in sports, professional fitness, or dance should either stop or significantly reduce their training.

If it is not possible to temporarily stop intense physical exercise, you should abandon this mono-diet and choose a more suitable, gentle, and balanced dietary option.

To protect your body from the harmful effects of this diet, you should drink only fresh kefir. The fat content should be between 1% and 1.5%.
Kefir diet with fruits or vegetables
A 5-day program. It is recommended to drink up to 1.5 liters of kefir per day; in addition, you may consume fruits or vegetables of your choice.

Only 1 kg of your favorite fruits or vegetables should be added to the diet. You should be careful when adding bananas and especially grapes to this diet, as these fruits have a very high sugar content.

Vegetables can be eaten raw, baked, or boiled. Potatoes should be consumed with caution.

Cottage cheese and kefir diet
For people who are health-conscious, this diet will be a godsend. All you need to consume are two highly nutritious foods rich in beneficial probiotics and calcium: cottage cheese and kefir.

The specific number of days spent on this diet should not exceed 3. Each day, you should drink up to 750 ml of kefir and eat up to 300 g of cottage cheese, preferably low-fat. Spread this out over 6 meals.

Kefir and Buckwheat Diet
This diet consists of two ingredients: buckwheat porridge and kefir. Buckwheat is prepared differently than usual: pour boiling water over it and let it soak overnight to allow it to swell.

There is no need to cook the buckwheat, and it is not recommended to add spices, salt, or oil to it. Divide the portions into 6 meals. Buckwheat porridge should be washed down with kefir; 1% fat kefir is required.

Noticeable changes may be observed after 3 days, so it is recommended to follow this cleansing diet for that duration.

7-Day Kefir Diet
In this version of the diet, you must eliminate salt and sugar. It is recommended not to repeat this diet more than once every three months. There should be 6 meals, spaced evenly throughout the day.
Thanks to the 7-day kefir diet, it is possible to lose up to 10 kilograms.

A sample menu looks like this:
1: Boil or bake the potatoes—4–5 medium-sized potatoes + 1.5 liters of kefir;

2nd: Chicken breast, pre-boiled, divided into 5–6 portions of 100 g each + 1.5 L of kefir;

3rd: Lean beef, boiled or lightly cooked — 100 g + 1.5 L of kefir;

4th: lean fish, boiled or steamed — 100 g + 1.5 L kefir;

5th: fruits (avoid ripe bananas and grapes) and vegetables (excluding potatoes). Eat vegetables raw, or you can bake, steam, or boil them. In addition, you can make various fruit salads;

6th: 1.5 liters of kefir is allowed;

7th: still mineral water, up to 2 liters.

The Kefir Diet: Pros and Cons
This type of diet, in all its forms, normalizes the acid-base balance and helps the digestive tract and stomach function as intended.

A monodiet based on a fermented milk product is designed to last three days; this is the time the body needs to eliminate waste and toxins, but the body itself will not become depleted during this period.

Other types of diets are considered gentler, as they include other ingredients in the diet besides kefir, such as buckwheat porridge (one of the most beneficial grains), vegetables, and various fruits.

These types of fasting days will help you lose excess weight without harming your health.

A drawback of the kefir diet is chronic intolerance to the milk protein casein. Other side effects include excessive gas and bloating.
There are certain medical conditions in which this lactic acid beverage should be consumed with caution:
- peptic ulcer disease
- duodenal diseases
- bone formation disorders
- diseases associated with metabolic disorders

Thanks to kefir, it is possible to lose unwanted weight and cleanse the body of toxins. In addition, kefir fills the digestive tract with lactic acid bacteria necessary for proper digestion.

It is crucial to prepare yourself mentally before starting fasting days. It is extremely important to follow the rules for exiting this diet so as not to negate all your efforts.
How to Start and End the Diet Properly
Seven days before starting the diet, you should gradually reduce your calorie intake. If possible, avoid fried and excessively fatty foods, as well as alcohol and sweet pastries. Cutting out salt and sugar will also be beneficial.
You can substitute soy sauce for salt, but don’t overdo it. Soy sauce consumption should not exceed 1 tablespoon per day.

You should continue to follow these same rules after the diet ends to maintain your results.
