A diet is prescribed by a doctor after an examination, depending on the nature of the disease, its stage and severity, any complications, and medications being taken. Diets include low- or high-protein, high- or low-calorie, low-carbohydrate, low-salt, mechanically and chemically restrictive, and targeted diets (hypoallergenic, gluten-free, lactose-free).
