The Samoan Peninsula is an independent government in the South Pacific Ocean. The group of islands adjacent to Samoa includes the islands of Savaii, Upolu, Apolima and others.

Coral reefs frame the Samoan peninsula on the northeastern and eastern sides, and Upolu is surrounded on all sides.

The first to discover the island of Samoa was the Dutch traveler Jacob Roggeveen, who landed here a couple of centuries ago (18th century). Local Samoans were belligerent towards Europeans and acquired a reputation as a wild and unfriendly people.
