Samoa
The Samoan Peninsula is an independent government in the South Pacific Ocean. The group of islands adjacent to Samoa includes the islands of Savaii, Upolu, Apolima and others.
The area of island two is 843 sq. km. There are only 100, 900 inhabitants here. The city of Apia is the capital of the country, and the leader of the Samoans is considered the head.
In the western part of the area, Samoa represents the tops of an underwater ridge of volcanic origin. Basically, the surface of the island has mountainous terrain. In the center of the country there is an elevation of the terrain, and in some places the land flows into the coastal lowlands. The peninsula is rich in fast-moving mountain rivers, the banks of which are very rocky and sharp. The length of the coastline is from four hundred km. Coral reefs frame the Samoan peninsula on the northeastern and eastern sides, and Upolu is surrounded on all sides.

From the history of Samoa
The first to discover the island of Samoa was the Dutch traveler Jacob Roggeveen, who landed here a couple of centuries ago (18th century). Local Samoans were belligerent towards Europeans and acquired a reputation as a wild and unfriendly people.

The local climate is very hot and wet. The dry season is observed from May to October, and rains are much more frequent from November to April. The flora is diverse and includes about six hundred species of plants. In Western Samoa there are many useful trees, the material of which is used in the construction of houses and boats. The animal fauna is extremely poor in the presence of mammals, but this island is very rich in insects.

The cuisine of the Samoan islanders does not indulge too much in spicy flavors. But here it is permissible to try food cooked in earthen ovens. Coconut is the main and important component in the local menu of popular national dishes.

Thanks to its gorgeous nature, the island of Samoa is considered an excellent place for travel and a good holiday on foot. At the moment, tourism in western Samoa is just beginning to develop. You can explore the island by boat or canoe, and foreigners widely use bicycles to travel around the beautiful places on the island.
