Jamaica

Jamaica

Jamaica borders the peninsula and Cuba of Haiti, located almost two hundred kilometers from the borders with these states.
Several islands called the Morant Keys and Pedro Keys are territorially attached to Jamaica. Jamaica is located in the zone of hurricane activity from the Atlantic Ocean, as a result of which there are strong winds that cause devastating damage to the local population.
The capital of the country is the city of Kingston, where just over half a million people live. According to the main normative document, the president is the monarch of the United Kingdom of England. He appoints his own representative – the governor, and he, on his own side, appoints the prime minister and other ministers.

About culture in Jamaica

Once upon a time, Indian tribes lived here – the Tainos, thanks to whom the Jamaican culture was formed. But not only they influenced the customs and life of this country. Settlers of European and African peoples made their own adjustments. This country hosts one of the largest reggae festivals every year. Jamaica is considered the birthplace of this musical style. Other local festivals are also widely known, such as the Caribbean Rum, Food and Wine Festival and others.

Jamaican cuisine

The cultural traditions of local peoples (Indians, Spaniards, English) influenced Jamaican cuisine and combined some dishes into one, but with changes. Local foods include fruits and simple vegetables, fish and seafood. Ginger is often added to local dishes; its main task is to impart a slight bitterness and a narrow and aromatic taste to the dish. The addition of nutmeg is also popular; this spice is not only tasty, but also necessary. But allspice gives Jamaican dishes a spicy kick, “coloring” their taste.

Jamaica

The national fruit of Jamaica is the akki. It is the fruit of an evergreen tree native to West Africa. This fruit was brought to Jamaica in the 18th century, and only Jamaicans recognized this fruit as edible. It is pear-shaped and yellowish-red in color.
