Conveniently located in the southeastern region of Europe and occupying the terrain of the Balkan Peninsula, Croatia shares borders with the following countries: Hungary, Serbia, Herzegovina and Bosnia, and Slovenia.
The southwestern part of the country is washed by the Adriatic Sea. Croatia includes a thousand islands located in the Adriatic Sea. The country has both mountainous uplands and flat lowlands. There are few rivers flowing in Croatia, but they are deep and long in length (Danube, Sava, Drava, Kupa and Bosut).
The capital of the country is considered to be the ancient city of Zagreb, where about a million people live. The official colloquial address is pronounced in Croatian, which has three dialects (Shtokavian, Chakavian and Kajkavian). Most of the residents profess Catholicism, a small percentage (4%) are Orthodox Christians, and a small part of the people (1. 5%) are Muslims.
