Cotton bed linen: which one to choose?

the importance of home textiles cannot be underestimated, because it is thanks to it that our home becomes a cozy nest to which we want to return quickly after a busy day at work, and bed linen turns the bed into a cradle that can immerse a person in an atmosphere of bliss and complete rest, so high-quality cotton fabrics will preserve your health. It is widely known that we spend a third of our lives in a state of sleep, so what we sleep on is not the least important. For us, using sheets, pillowcases, and duvet covers is considered as natural as wearing clothes, washing your face in the morning, or drinking a cup of coffee. It is even difficult to imagine that this was not always the case.

until the mid-15th century, only a few descriptions of bed linen were known; it was available only to very rich people, it was made from Egyptian linen and decorated with sacred patterns designed to increase the strength of lovers. The forefather of the fashion for bed linen in Europe was Madame de Pompadour, but it was still available to the richest people, it was only white, with embroidery and lace. The beginning of the 20th century was a turning point in the traditional coloring of home textiles; linens began to be produced in pastel colors, but in the 60s a real revolution took place in the world of color – bright colors appeared.

But one thing has remained unchanged – the most practical, comfortable and hygienic are still natural materials such as cotton, linen and silk.

Cotton fabrics, in turn, differ in the type of weaving and thread density and are divided into the following types:

— Calico is a practical material. This fabric can withstand a large number of washes, it is quite dense (42 threads per 1 cm of fabric), and retains heat well. Most often, calico bedding is used in the cold season;

— POPLIN is not inferior to calico in terms of durability and wear resistance, but due to a special weaving method (the base is thinner threads, horizontal threads are twice as thick), it is much softer to the touch;

— RANFORS is distinguished by a thinner thread, more dense weaving (50-60 threads per 1 cm of fabric), twisted thread, such bedding sets are soft, smooth, and highly wear-resistant;

— SATIN, due to its special interweaving of threads, appears shiny and silky to the touch. This is one of the most expensive cotton fabrics, the shine is achieved by a special weave of twisted cotton threads, which fades a little only after 200-300 washes;

— JACQUARD SATIN is a type of elite satin. Its feature is a woven pattern made on special machines.
