Africa is considered the second largest continent after Eurasia. The continent is washed by the Mediterranean Sea in the north, the Atlantic Ocean in the west, the Indian Ocean in the southeast, and the Red Sea dominates the northeast.
The mainland area is inhabited by sixty-two countries, and fifty-four free states, where approximately one billion people live.
The African plains make up the main part of the continent, so the relief is very diverse. Africa has a High and Low point of the continent. Mount Kilimanjaro is considered the highest, but the lowest point of the continent is Lake Assal, the depth of which is one hundred and fifty-seven meters. Africa is rich in deserts. In the north is the Sahara Desert, which is considered to be the largest in the world. The Klahari Desert is located in the south, and the Namib Desert is located in the southwest.
