Protecting seafarers and their families
the range of interests of the world community at sea has long been based on the importance that sea spaces have in human life. Seas and oceans, as we know, cover most of the surface of world space. They played an important role in the formation of many states. The ITF was created in London in 1896 by the leaders of the European seamen’s and dockers’ unions. Today the ITF represents the interests of workers in freight and passenger transport, railways, ports, shipping, the fishing industry, inland waterways, and also civil aviation and tourism.
This organization represents the workers at the global level and defends their interests on the basis of solidarity and through international actions. The organization’s activities are devoted to the formation of the protection of human rights and the independent democratic trade union movement, and of course the protection of the rights of trade union organizations. The organization opposes any form of aggression, discrimination and totalitarianism. It is also one of the organizations of the World Federations of Trade Unions, which are part of the international Confederation of Free Trade Unions. The main function of the organization is to support its member organizations and find ways to protect the interests of transport workers in the global economy.
